How we worked it out
- Google Trends, Interest by subregion, United States, November 1 to December 31, 2025: one search at a time, 48 gift searches in all. Trends scores each state 0 to 100 against the state where the search took its largest share of all searches.
- For every gift we divided each state’s score by the median state’s; a state’s standout gift is the one with the highest ratio, among scores of 50 and over. So it is the gift a state searched for more than the rest of the country did, not the gift with the most searches: those would be the same few everywhere.
- Left out: hunting knife and sunrise alarm clock, with no data in more than five states; and one-state spikes, where the top state scored over twice the next, for Yeti tumbler, cast iron skillet, espresso machine in Wyoming.
